A Cosy, Christmas Evening with Baggaley & Varnam
Phil Baggaley (The Open Road) and Bill Varnam are a new partnership in homespun performance. Their back-to-basics acoustic set of cleverly embroidered songs, stories and anecdotes is like a haycart ride on a warm summers evening. Join them for a for a unique evening of songs and stories together with the telling of a brand new Christmas tale, The Winter Fair. The Winter Fair uses narration, introduces characters and original songs to explore real and imagined events inspired by ‘The Big Freeze’ that fell across the land back in 1962. Demonstrating how people can come together to make the best out of their circumstances, it holds out a friendly hand to society and speaks with a warm heart. So why not join Baggaley & Varnam by the glow of an imagined open fire and begin to feel the warmth of the Christmas season.
‘Baggaley and Varnam were a real hit at Derby Folk Festival this year; holding the audience, most of whom didn’t know them, captivated. Great playing and singing, and with introductions that set the scene poetically and perfectly, they played a set of songs that drew you in with every word and note. I invited them back straight away!’ Bob Rushton, Director, Derby Folk Festival 2021
